Natalie Sumter is buried in this S.C. chapel
Natalie Delage Sumter instructed her children to build a chapel (above) on her Stateburg plantation following her death in 1842. She is buried under the chapel, which today is in General Sumter Memorial State Park in Sumter County, South Carolina. Nearby is the grave of Revolutionary War Gen. Thomas Sumter.

  • March 1, 2003, 1:15 p.m. Washington, D.C. -- Tisdale will address the Society of the Cincinnati at Anderson House, 2118 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. If you're interested in attending, please notify us by e-mail.

  • May 27, 2003, 3:30 p.m., Stateburg, SC -- Tisdale will address the Stateburg Literary and Musical Society at Moorehill.

  • Media -- Tisdale is expected to appear in South Carolina on radio and television to promote his history.

  • Columbia -- Tisdale is expected to appear at a Midlands-area reception honoring the book. It will be sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Charleston.

  • Los Angeles -- Plans are being made for receptions in Los Angeles later this year.
